Mani Rathnam's next venture will be set in Sri Lanka. The film to be made in Tamil is called Kannathil Muthamittal which means "If I Kiss On The Cheek." The director is keeping the details under wraps, Madhavan is pairing with Simran in this film. Also features a Buddha that is fifty feet high.
Buddham Saranam Gacchami? Possibly, but the details aren't out as yet. Rathnam has made several films with bold and different themes in the past. If Roja was about Kashmir, Bombay centred on the Bombay riots. With Uyire, known only for the train-top number thaiya thaiya, he journeyed into the northeast.
Shooting in Sri Lanka is a different ball game. The island is strife-torn, and making a film in the country is not the simplest thing to do. But for one to deliver a hit even in a regional film, taking risks has become increasingly necessary. Mani Rathnam is not a person who is known to take the tired routes to commercial success. More precisely, even if he does so, he does that smartly which is what we saw in his superhits.
Recently Maniratnam had a mild heart attack and hospitalised at the Apollo Hospital Chennai. The doctors have asked him to take a rest.
